Default Are alternators universal for RHD/LHD?

Sorry, really dumb question but it seems that it's cheaper to pay for shipping from the US on something as heavy as an alternator than to buy in the UK.
I'm just wondering if there's a difference between alts fitted to Left Hand Drives and Right Hand Drives because I've seen some listings describe an alternator as suitable for LHD but no mention of right.

It's hard to get an answer in the UK because there were no LHD jeeps imported here...
So, if anyone happens to know, or has a US Postal Jeep, could you let me know please?
thanks
Morat

i would think that they are same thing as the only thing changed for RHD is the steering controls, gas and brake.

Hey Morat.

I put a LHD into my '96 RHD without an issue.

What you should do is take a look at how it mounts. If memory serves, the part is the same, but the bracket is slightly different.

Hope that helps

That's great news, thanks Magiksreal. I think I'd better get one in ready for when the current one finally dies. It's still coping, but the gauge is waving too far to the left for my comfort...
