Alternator issue --> Need advice
Hello all,
I have a 1998 XJ Limited. Recently the Voltage gauge has been going from around 14+/- down to 9 volts. When this happens the "check gauges" light comes on. If I stop and restart the rig It goes back up to around 14 for a bit then pegs back at 9 again.
So far I have left everything the same then charged the battery. Everything worked fine on my 14 mile drive to town, but on the way home (10 hours later) I had the same voltage drop 14 to 9.
next I pulled the alternator out and had it bench tested at a local parts store. I checked out good. I also had the battery tested and it checks out very strong.
After that it ran good for about 2 days, then today it went from about 14 volts and pegged at 9 again.
Any advice would be greatly appreciated. I"ll check all connections later today.
