It sounds like you have cable/terminal issues. Start there and see what happens. If it turns out the alternator needs replacing, you would want new ones anyway. But I bet it's just cabling.

My jeep is doing the same thing today.....i just replaced the battery nad terminals.....so i guess i need a new alternator =[
