So Ive had my Jeep on jackstands for the past week doing the leafs & shocks. Yesterday I finished everything up and went to take her for a ride and upon turning the key, the belt started squealing like mad. Whatever, she hasnt been driven in a week, its been REALLY hot and we've had a number of thunderstorms. Well, in about 5 seconds it got REALLY bad and I knew something wasnt right. Before I could turn her off she started smoking and the belt snapped, all in about 7 to 10 seconds. Since it was pouring out I left her. Well Im out there now and the belt burned up on the alternator. Melted it and snapped it right there. My alternator pulley is absolutely frozen and Im not sure what the deal is. Everything was absolutely fine when I parked her and now Im wondering if my alternator went. Any ideas?

 

yes the alt is bad, go get a used, or rebuilt one.

 

Bearings froze?

Anytime you start your rig and you hear noise like that turn the motor off, and find out where it is coming from.
