Default alternator

Hi guys
I have a slight squeal coming from the alternator pulley on my 2.5 CRD KJ.
Just wondered if any of you have ever experienced this?
I'm assuming I can just take out the bolt through the centre of the pulley, pull it off and replace it.
Thanks in advance

The only way the actual pulley can squeal is if the belt is slipping across it. A new pulley won't fix that.

The parts that the pulley are bolted on are most likely doing the squealing and that stuff is inside the alternator. They spin a lot and they do wear out.

I did fit a new belt as the old one was cracked, and it quietened it down a lot. I guess I could maybe find a good used alternator and swap it. I'm too tight o buy a new one, especially since there is nothing actually wrong as such with the one on it

Best bet is buy a tensioner tool and set belt correctly, if it still squeals the bearings are bad and probably easiest to just replace the unit. Alternators have multiple bearings, not easy to do it without going in on special tools and knowledge.

I don't know if the parts shops in Scotland will test your alternator for free like they do here in the states at some shops, but you should test the alternator before you replace it.

Glad to hear that the new belt stopped the squealing! Cheers!
