TYPE PART NUMBER RATED SAE AMPS ENGINES MINIMUM TEST AMPS
DENSO 56041685AA 117 4.0L 88
DENSO 56041565AA 81 4.0L 57
DENSO 56005684AB 81 2.5L 57
DENSO 56005685AC 117 2.5L 88
DENSO 56041822AA 124 2.5L/4.0L 90
I read this as the 117 is rated at 88 test amps. And the original standard alternator from the factory would only be 81 and 57 test amps.
Parts guy at Napa was willing to dig in and cross reference for me after I told him about the 120 Bosch that was mentioned in an earlier post. He is bring in the Bosch and a Napa 120 for me to look at this afternoon.

If you noticed, the veterans here suggest upgrading wires because we've had first hand experience with it. I'll never tell someone to upgrade an alt without putting upgraded wiring in the same sentence.

OP, I'm sure any factory unit will suite your needs just fine.

I've also suggested to people with stock alt to upgrade wires, or rather getting new wires. 17+ years old vehicle, people wont believe the corrosion that's under the insulation. That's actually next on my list of things to do probably after winter.
All these points are valid, even 346's.
I too would never recco, and no one did until talking about wiring.
I have just upgraded my wiring, and am pulling my belt to determine if I need a new alt.
I do not have any accessories yet,but will in the future.
Should OP & I get the 117 or 136 amp?
Does anyone have part numbers?
Thanks.

I found a pro start 117 amp from pep boys for $96 after core & online discount.
It's listed as fitting a 99 4.0.
Any one know if the fitment including wires are the same for a 1994?

When trying install the 136 I could see where it hit the mounting bracket and considered a little grinding but looking closer it appeared the housing was very close or hitting the block also. I am not comfortable grinding on the alt's housing to clear the block. Those kinds of mods are outside my pay-grade.
Both took less than 5 minutes to clearance, and the block has plenty of metal on that area. Obviously cut only as much as you need (meaning keep mounting the alternator up to see how much further you need to go), but it is a worthwhile upgrade if you have extra electronics.
I am trying to avoid grinding.
I just found a alt,listed for a 1997 at pep boys 25% off.
136 amp,and the wiring looks the same.
Part # 13746.
Any one have any experience with this fitment?

Went with a 150 amp rebuilt in stock housing for $106 from ace alternator on eBuy.
Should be no fitment issues.
I'll let everyone know.
Also found a new 117 amp Bosch from rock auto for $115.
