I have a really nice Alpine head unit with stock speakers and I am thinking about upgrading. I have a Sub and Amp but I really not want to install that in my jeep. So I am thinking about some good 6x9's in the door but not sure about the sound bar. I am affraid the 6x9's will overpower the sound bar and make the sound unballanced. Any thoughts or upgrades to the sound bar?

I say go for it. If you know what you are doing you can adjust the speakers so that they balance each other out. I had a honda accord once with a 12 speaker system in it, it rocked the boat but took some time balancing everything out just right.

6x9 is a little much in the sound bar, use 6 1/2" 3 way. Do 6x9 in the back doors and 5 1/2" in the fronts. This is my set-up sounds good, I also have a amp and a small sub. But the sub is turned way down, the 6x9s do most of the driving.

As far as the sound bar... first do you have a factory amp? If you do have one, what I would do is disconnect the rear speakers from that and have that amp run the front speakers only. Then buy an amp that is dedicated to the rear sound bar. You can get whatever you want but even just a cheap sony explode would probably be plenty for the sound bar. The benefit of having different amps on front/rear is that you can adjust each amp so that one doesn't overpower the other.
Just a thought

no factory amp. I have an aftermarket amp and sub but I really wanted to avoid hooking all that up. I may go with 6.5 in the sound bar and 6x9's in the front. I may end up with the amp installed anyway. I love the stereo sound in my wifes 06 grand but I cant imitate that system

Correct me if I'm wrong, but the front doors are round openings. 6x9's wouldn't really fit there. 6.5"s would.

are you going for sound quality? if so the simpler the set up the better. most comp sq cars are running 2 mids (5.5 or 6.25s) 2 tweeters (mounted in very lose proxcimity to mids) and 1 sub.

each has there job.

subs produce 20-200 hz bass
mids are 180-4000 hz vocal
tweets are 3000-20,000 hz music

all are needs to produce proper sound. when you get into mulitple speakers you have to worry about distance from ears and speakers being in faze and who ha ha.

simple is better/ easier

if you want me to go further i can

I know, I just really wanted to avoid going through all that. I have the sub and amp and could just upgrade the stocks to components up front and three ways in the rear or even components in the rear. I really just wanted a clear and full sound. Not big bass, just nice full clear sound.

I was just going to remove the stock speakers and cut the door panels out to fit 6x9's. I may go with the 6x9s up front and put components in the sound bar.

i wouldnt even mess with the rear fill (back speakers). proper components up front should envelope the entire car with sound. if you do run rear fill, detenuate (im not a speller) it at least 3db as not to destroy imagining.

imaging is where your brain precieves where each instrument is coming from.

proprer placement of speakers is what your after for sq. dont put back into doors. make some kick pods and put a components set in there. try to keep same distance from focal point (ears) is important also

sq is tough. and takes some work

start with reading this. easy basics/ misconceptions. any questions you can ask.

http://www.caraudiobook.com/car_audi...udio_myths.htm

I was a MECP certified FIRST CLASS mobile electronics installer

i have a set of focal 6.5s and tweets ran off a 600watt kenwood amp and an mtx 4500 10 ran off of a Elemental Designs 200 watt amp. not in at moment due to reconstruction of jeep. notice the small sub amp but bigger hgihs amp

and i had this in (for 3 days) for BASS comp. i hate to much bass but fun to beat people with $10000 in there system with borrowed crap and a 2day install (152 dbs, would have been louder but blew door seals out in qualifing)

posjeepxj, what are your thoughts on baffles for the doors. Do you think that would improve the sound of a set of good speakers, at least door speakers?

BTW... what are the stock size speakers anyway?

I also spent weeks trying to figure out what to do with my XJ,s stereo system. I start the install today, and hope that I have a good setup..

Here is what I plan to do.. I have already removed the headliner, and plan to use the factory plastic sound bar on the rear. I have used dyna-mat on the roof above the sound bar, and self tapping screws to secure the sound bar to the roof. I also plan to use expanding foam to keep the sound bar from rattling. I have cut the round holes in the sound bar to fit the 6 1/2 two way Kickers that I plan to use. I ran new standard size speaker wire from the from the sound bar to the stereo. I will also be installing dyna-mat in the front doors and installing a matching pair of 6 1/2's. I'm using a basic Sony stereo at 54 watts x 4 channels. I hope to use the balance and fade features, along with the built in eq to get the sound I'm looking for.

I will post some pics, and updates soon... Todays project is only the rears, and the fronts will be some time in the near feature....

The Sony had a short, so I got a discontinued JVC for $30 at Pep Boys. Only have rear speakers and it sounds good... will be adding the front door speakers next weekend...

I just did 6.25s today in my speaker bar. Quite easy to make them fit. Kind of a pain to figure out speaker grills for though. So I just left mine out.
