For a while there my coolant temp gauge would die, then come back on intermittently. the other night I was driving and from the moment I turned key to the moment I cut the engine off, NON of my gauges worked. Everything lit up, but nothing functioned. I turned my key on the next day and it's as if nothing ever happened. What could cause this? I'm trying to be proactive about it before it dies when I NEED to know how fast I'm going or when I'm gonna run out of gas, thanks in advance.
This happened in my 98 before. No gauges at all. It is a common problem, and occurs when the connector to instrument panel loses contact. The quick fix is to push firmly on the panel to get your connection back. That worked for me.
The more permanent fix would be to pull the panel, clean the connections and apply some dielectric grease to the connector, then reinstall.
Good luck!
