Air suspension
Has anyone done a Kellerman(sp) style lift on thier XJ?
Being from the custom world on suspensions I have a custom air ride setup on my lincoln,
So I got to thinking and measuring gears turning, and Im strong entertaining the thought of a same style setup but to go up instead of down. I love the way air suspensions ride.
So my Idea is to make an adjustable lift, giving me, from 6"-14" lift at my command.

4 to 8 would be what i would do. anything close to 8 or over requires ALOT of fabrictaion or modifications to almost every component under the rig plus getting the angles to work right will be very difficult at that height, mainly the trackbar up front. the higher you go, the further the axle shifts over plus the axle moves backwards due to control angles becoming steeper as you go up. im not saying its impossible but at the height you are aiming for, its just not really practical on a cherokee. you can give it a try though. If you can eliminate the trackbar by triangulating the upper arms, and somehow figure out an arm length that would work with the lowest and highest setting, you may have a chance at doing this. Are you doing this strictly for show? Is the rig gonna be abused?
What you need to do first is figure out what size tire you want to run. At 6", you can fit 35's with some trimming but at 14", 35's will look funny. The best way to do a suspension lift is to pick the tire size first and plan a lift around that.

Trying to maintain proper steering geometry, pinion angles, and drive shaft lengths make it an unrealistic idea. Trying to keep the wheels at the same wheelbase while raising and lowering the rig will be damn near impossible. It might look cool at the mall parking lot but I doubt it would be trail or road worthy.

Yeah, you definitely need a slimmer margin if you really want to go with that setup. Something like 4-6", or 6-8". Even with that, to do it properly you'd really need an adjustable track bar and adjustable lower control arms, which would have to be adjusted each time you lift or lower the suspension. That is, if anything, more work than its worth.
An air-ride suspension at a FIXED height might be nice though. Just my 2 cents.

As you vary the front suspension the steering geometry is going to vary as well so that is going to be your big hurdle to cross. Get past that and you will have a good idea. If you can't get past that hurdle then you got junk that is un-driveable.

Didn't CherLOWkee do something like this to his rig? I thought he had hydraulics on his and could raise and lower it. I wonder, if he did have that, how it worked out.

it wont be max out to drive its a 2wd so i think doing something a little bit to the extreme to abuse it wont be an issue. i would assume the sweet spot considering the weight and the cg of the xj would be about 80psi which if we did the math right would end up being about a 9"-10" lift. i drop the pitman arm is a must brake lines yadda yadda. im planng on triangulating a 4 link on the rear. possibly on the front as well. how stable are the jeeps that high up?
