Dude, I don't mean to come off like an A-hole at all but, that thing looks like a cheap cheesey POS.
I also say don't pay $200 dollars for a complete K&N air intake because I believe they are WAAAAAAAAY over priced. If you like K&N filters, buy a K&N cone filter for a decent price at your local Autozone. Yes, Autozone has K&N filters and then build your own intake for around $40. Look in the XJ Write ups section under HB Cold Air Intake. That is the write up I did about my intake.

I don't think a Cherokee would benefit from any aftermarket intake

I must admit the first noticeable power upgrade I made to my XJ was pulling that stupid sound supressor "donut" looking thing out of the stock air intake system. Just doing that made a noticeable difference in seat-of-the-paints acceleration.

Where exactly is that sound supressor donut located? Is it hard to remove?

The sound supressor is in the air tube right where it goes into the stock air box. It is a pain to get it out but, it definitely is do-able....and very worth the trouble. You will be amazed by the difference.

You will need to remove the flexable hose from the tube going into the top of your air box. Look into the ttube and you will see the donut.
