It is likely undercharged, causing the coil to be too cold and freezing condensate on it. Eventually it turns into a block of ice that will not cool. The warm air you are getting is from the usual air leaks in an automotive system. Add some refrigerant and it will be fine, but don't overcharge it

Glad you got it working, but you probably have a small leak somewhere in the system and will likely experience the same thing again before too long. Good thing is that if it happens again then you'll know what the problem is and not that it's a mechanical failure. That way when you take it it for service they won't be able to tell you that the whole thing needs replaced, or if they do, you can call them on Thursday crap. You need them to find the leak and fix it, not sell you a big, unneeded upgrade.
