Thin chrome air cleaner assembly on a 5.2??
The kid who I bought my ZJ 5.2L was running a cold air intake. I'm not crazy about it. I don't like the way it hovers over the engine, and I don't feel I'm gaining anything with it on. I want to run a small, thin chrome air cleaner that just sits on top of the carb. Anyone doing this? Any pics? Any suggestions on a brand / part number? I'd even trade my cold air intake for something. DEAN

Cold air intakes don't help mpg or performance, however ram air intakes do, but only over 40 mph. The original intake system was a cold air system. The air filter you want to put on it will use hot underhood air and actually hurt performance.

Doh. Thought that was a 2 barrel carb under there. Shows how much I know. If I can't come up with a legal round chrome air cleaner setup, maybe with a hood scoop, I'll go to the junkyard, and pick up the original air intake parts.

Yeah, I hear you. When looking at pics of the original setup, it's the same as the aftermarket "cold air intake". All that's different is the stainless steel tube. My mechanic said a K&N filter in the original box was the better choice. My purpose in thinking about a "top of the throttle body" air filter setup (for lack of the right term), is gaining space under the hood. I will be removing the A/C, the cruise control, and the ABS components. All making for a more roomy engine compartment.
