Default Air bag light and speedometer

My '99 XJ's air bag light will come on and the speedometer will quit working randomly. I can either pull the headlight switch out and keep pressure on it for a second or push it in all the way and keep pressure on it for a second and the light goes out and speedometer starts working again. I was going to buy a headlight switch this weekend unless someone thinks it possibly could be a bad plug, wire, etc.? Hate to spend money on the switch and it not fix the problem.

I am having the same issue with my 2000 XJ, but mine sometimes it goes back to normal in few seconds or minutes or sometimes longer like 20-30 min.(airbag goes off and speedometer goes on).
Did you find out what causing it Bro?

Check the plug on the cluster, it's a very common problem. Clean all the contacts good and tweak the connector on the dash side if needed to make sure it's making good contact.

This is your problem. it's not the head light switch.

I replaced the headlight switch and I have not had an issue since then. It might have been just a bad connection though.
