99 Cherokee Sport, auto, 4wd, 4.0L, all stock.

Has anyone else had the "airbag" light go on/off intermittently?

Sometimes mine will go on, then off in a few minutes, then on for a few minutes, then off for a few minutes. There isn't an obvious pattern with the on/off sequence and it's hard to predict when it will light up.

Might be the connector behind the cluster. Tried firmly push the cluster back. If the dosnt work take the dash apart pull the cluster and puts some dielectric grease on it and then put it all back together. Hopfully that will help.

Could be the airbag relay. Its underneath the seat or center console I believe. Or could be the clockspring starting to go bad. Both are common problems and both happened to me.

Thanks. I'll check the relay and the clock spring when the weather settles down and the son doesn't need the Cherokee to get to/from work.

Now I notice that when the airbag light is lit, sometimes the speedo or the tack will drop to zero for a few seconds, then come back up.

I think Gremlins got up in there.

I have the same problem With my 98 XJ and I know exactly what my problem is. It's a bad connection behind the instrument cluster. When mine acts up I just give it a firm hit either on the dash above the instrument panel and if that doesn't work try hitting it just under the instrument panel. Try not to hit the clear lens or you may crack it. I have been to lazy to fix mine right. But it work for me for now.

The clock spring is an easy repair. I did ours awhile ago and forgot to re-post. Solved the 'no horn' and 'airbag light' issue. It sucks that the little part was $88.
