Lightbulb Aiming Headlights

I ordered these today:

I want to make sure these H4's don't blind anyone or get me a lot of high-beam flashes. So I was thinking I would park about 6' from my fence (as I live in the city and its about as far away as I can get) and marking where the high and low beams hit. Then installing the H4's and adjusting them to match, maybe slightly more down.

This lead to two more thoughts: 1) Should I even touch the adjustment screws as the headlights are already aimed? 2) Well it's been 8 years maybe they need to be re-aimed.

Are there are any rules of thumb for aiming head lights, like every 6' the center of the beam should drop 6" or something like that?

What are you guy's thoughts?

Thanks!

well i dont know about what state you live in but in pennsylvania for state inspection a inspection garage has to have either a approved aiming screen or the aiming machines and are supposed to check them and adjust them during inspections... so if you need it inspected anytime soon put the lights in and just have them adjust them

I'm a Michigander, we don't "do" inspections, its quite nice.

"Back the vehicle straight back about 25 feet, and check where the hot spot from each headlight now falls. They should be about 2 inches below and 2 inches to the right of each "+" on the wall."
Well I guess if I back it up about 6' then it should be about 1/2" off.

I guess if the stock and H4 head lights both do it there's no need to adjust.

Man I can't wait for those suckers to get here.

EDIT: Hmmm, I just missed smtippin's links maybe I just need to go somewhere where I can back up 25'.
