i want to get rid of the ugly steering wheel in my 99 2 door 4.0. i dont have the radio controls on it nor do i have cruise control, essentially no buttons on it. now if i take it off is it illegal to take the airbag off completely and install a steering wheel with no airbag? will the airbag light pop up on my dash board? how hard is it to do?

 

If disabled, yes the airbag light will illuminate (it's a separate lamp you could yank the bulb). As far as legal? You could try calling the popo, your insurance company, or the DMV. Myself, I think I would rather have an airbag v.s. being impaled on the steering column.

ETA: Removal is very simple, just do a search & follow the instructions exactly. If it deploys in your hands, you're SOL.
