Hey y'alls, I'm in need of some direction please. 2000 xj 4.0, and it seems to be getting a little hard to start. It used to turn over on the second crank, but now it's taking a good 7 seconds to get that engine roaring. The battery and the starter are both under 6 months old, and I've replaced the TPS. Once on it idles perfectly and runs smoothly. I'm not sure what I should check. The johnsonrod? Maybe my flux capacitor? I doubt I'll ever hit 88 miles per hour though. Any insight would be greatly appreciated!

I was gonna say your CPS signal is getting degraded. Pretty soon he won't be able to start his XJ. LOL
I know after my CPS change it fixed a lot of my lil issues i had wrong with the Jeep. Slow start was one of them.

I agree with stryker, i replaced my cps on my 90, she used to take a solid 5-6 cycles to start, after cps replacement she hits on the second or third every time

If nothing then I would start looking at fuel pressure at the rail.
If that tests out good you may be looking at a crack in your manifold or something.
I am currently battling the same problem. All the research I have done points to these issues being the cause of the starting issue.
I still think its the fuel check valve. It's a 2000, according to his info, and they are known for that issue, and the check valve throws these same symptoms.

Drop the tank and replace the fuel pump module, not real hard unless there is a full tank of gas. If there is a receiver hitch it will make it a pain, you have to remove the hitch in order to get the skid plate off, those hitch bolts are usually pretty rusted up and the exhaust is in the way on the right side.

replacing that valve means replacing the fuel sending unit, it's in the tank.
