Default Adjust NSS while running?

I'd like to adjust my NSS while in reverse to be SURE to get it right on, but I do NOT want to be laying under my vehicle with it running and my buddies foot on the brakes!
Will it work to just turn the key to accessories, put it in revers, and then do it?

Just do it the way they say in the manual. IF you must do it will in gear and running. Then lift the jeep on 4 Jack stands, so that ALL tires are off the ground.

I did, maybe I should pull it off again...maybe I didn't put enough grease on?

Maybe its just bad, and needs to be replaced. Thats what it usually means when cleaning doesn't work.

On the much older NSS adjustments in the 80s the switch was mounted on the selector at the trans - you would put the car in neutral and there were 2 adjustment bolts you would loosen to pivot the switch. There was a small hole on the switch itself that you would put a small rod ( maybe .030) through . when the pin went through all the way while the car was in neutral it was set -you would lock up the adjustment bolts and that would be that.

Is there an electronic test I can do to verify that?
