good luck,

Thanks for some of those ideas I think I might try the tool box one since I have 2 just laying around. Also thanks for showing me that website those are some really cheap speakers!

I wanted an out of sight system with clear and high quality sound and used the following:

Alpine head unit powering Polk 2 way speakers mounted in the stock door location.

Q-Form kick panels from Crutchfield w/Polk component 6.5" mids & separate tweeters in foot wells.

Polk component 5.75" mids & separate tweeters mounted in factory soundbar.

Components sets are powered by Alpine 4x70 amp mounted under passenger's seat.

Blaupunkt 8" 70 watt powered amp under driver's seat.

I-Pod cable routed into console to keep it out of sight.

The amp and sub fit under seats, but the carpet had to be trimmed. I also had to shim the rear rear seat mounts and grind a bit on my seat rails to get the sub to mount under the driver's seat.

Everything is out of sight, appears stock and has a really nice, full sound. I listen to classic and southern rock primarily. The 8" sub under the seat makes plenty of bass for the type of music I like.

If I were you I'd go with a powered sub. They don't take up too much room in the back and are easily disconnected if you want to do so. Some are even designed to fit under the seat. I know Kenwood makes a model with twin 6.5 inch subs in a tidy little box that sounds excellent. Not so much bass that you'll **** off your neighbors or go deaf in a week but it will add great depth of sound to your music and have the ability to bump enough for most people's tastes when you crank it up.

downfiring or bandpass box, that way anyone looking in wont see the subs...just a box. You can bolt the box down, making it really hard to steal. Amp can be mounted under seats to stay hidden. A lot of people have built custom enclosures in the little cubby space in the rear.

Can you please explain how you fit your sub under your seat! I cant even fit my hand underneath it. Pics would be great.

I'll take some pics so you can see.

I cut the carpet and insulation to give me a little room, and I used a die grinder to remove a bracket that had not apparent purpose. I also had to grind the rear of the seat position locks because it was hitting the top of the sub box when I lifted the adjuster to slide the seat front or back. I then added some thick washers to shim up the rear the seat slightly and had to buy a longer bolt to replace the stock length bolt on the oustide rear. The inside rear has a stud, so it was the limiting factor as to how much the rear could be shimmed. Following is a link to the sub I used. I know it isn't the biggest thing going, but it fits out of sight and I think it sounds great.

so i saw on some vw site where a guy used his spare wheel as a mold for a fiberglass enclosure. he made it with a flange on the front side to screw onto a sheet of mdf that the sub mounts into. cut the mdf to the size of the tire and use one of them shallow depth subs (maybe a 10") made for a small enclosure. you can cover it back up with the carpet and mount the amp under the back seat. might try this someday if i ever get around to it.

Yea, thats a pretty popular place for a hidden sub. It gives a very clean look to the install, but then what do u do with your spare? My uncle had this setup in his camry wagon...he then mounted the spare vertical in the cargo area like a stock cherokee. redid the whole rear in suede, looked real nice. Might be tough to still fit the tire if its in a sedan.
