Default accessories don't work. replaced lock cylinder, didn't help.

Accessories (turn signals, radio, air, wipers) do not work in "on" position. Only work halfway between "off" and "on". Sometimes accessories stay on when in the off/lock position. I have to turn the key slightly to turn them off. I installed a new lock cylinder and the same thing happens. To me, it seems like the problem's somewhere inside the steering wheel column housing/shroud. Any ideas before I take out the steering column?

could that prevent it from going into start position? It used to occassionaly not be able to go into start. I'd have to turn the key several times to get it started. that's why I tried replacing the key lock cylinder. But now it starts fine everytime.

You don't have to remove the column.

Your problem is likely an out of adjustment ignition switch. Loosen the four screws and move the switch slightly until you get it positioned so that everything works.

^^ This. Adjust the switch. On top of the column partway down toward the floor.

I would also add that you need to check the ignition switch plug for damage, especially melting, which happens fairly often from current overdraw by accessories which AMC/Chryco saw fit to wire without relays.
