Default AC Noise

Got a 2000 Sport a few weeks ago and every time I turn on the AC I get a intermittent grinding sound for about 20-30 seconds, then it will stop. It only does this when I first turn on the AC. Any ideas?

Its possible that your a/c clutch could be slipping when trying to engage. Just the 1st thought that came to my head.

Thanks for the response. Do you think the slippage would be visible?

Yes. When you turn the a/c on the clutch would engaged which would cause the center area to spin at the same speed as the pulley. If it is slipping you will see slower movement between the pulley and center bearing.
