Default AC Issue

I know very little about the HVAC systems on the XJ.. so seeking some help.

Was going to try and make it the next month or so with no AC..but it sucks.

So.. currently blows luke warm air out.. elec fan works just fine. Figured all I needed was a recharge (most likely figured I had a leak too).

So I buy one of the 40 dollar recharge kits with the gauge and filler..
Hook it up and I have a pressure reading of 0..exactly what I suspect..

So I start filling and within about 15 seconds of filling..the gauge reads a super high pressure rating.

I did this "refill" while the ac was on max..

When I pulled the hose off the line it spewed off like it was pressurized..but still have warm air.

Thoughts on wtf I need to do with this thing

If you do have a leak and it has not being run in a long time you may have to take it in and have it checked out for leaks and you will more then likely have to have a vacuum pulled on the system or it won't work properly.

Does that explain why it pressurized so quickly and wont at least just spit out a bit of cool air?

Just a guess but I know that the gauges that come with the freon are very rarely right. You might want to see if you can rent the ac gauges from the parts store or if you have the funds buy a set. Or maybe you have a clogged line? Like I said just taking a couple of guesses. Believe me living in South Texas I would never be driving if my ac didn't work right especially when we can see the ambient temps reach 110 if not hotter.

Has the A/C ever functioned? If anyone ever used a leak sealer product the system is history.

Obviously its worked before..how far back..who knows. The po said it just needed to be charged..but im not sure that's accurate.
I've only had this XJ for a month...its not worked in the time I've had it

Exactly, say what they have to make the sale. Probably used to turn 9's in the 1/4 and scale 10' boulders too. See if you can find a reputable place & get an estimate for repairs.

From my experience, when recharging, at first the pressure appears to shoot up really high. I kept at it and the pressures stabilized until the whole bottle was put in.

But the freon disappeared for some reason. Chances are you have a leak and it'll leak out eventually. Depending on how long it takes to leak out, tells you what you need to do to fix it.

Its at the bottom of my concern list really. Unless its a super cheap fix.
Winter is coming up and it won't be needed..and I'd much rather have other parts than ac work.

I'm gonna dick around with it a bit more and see what I find
