Default A1 Cardone PCM - Safe to Drive without Flash

My PCM is going bad on my 2001 Cherokee. My mechanic wanted 800 for the Mopar remanufactured. Based upon some of the feedback from this forum, I bought a A1 Cardone PCM for less than $200. I know it needs to be flashed with the VIN and Mileage and my mechanic has someone who will do it for $150 (same price as the local dealership). He said I should not drive it unflashed that it could cause major problems. Looking around, it seems like the conventional wisdom is that it is fine to drive, but I can't find anything specific to the Cardone since it is not flashed like the various Florida outfits.

Is it safe to drive a Cardone PCM for 10 miles to get to the mechanic for the flash, or will I harm my jeep by doing so?
