I just bought a 99 xj sport, the previous owner said AC worked but didn't blow cold. Drove it 200 miles home with no AC and ran perfect. Got home found out the vacuum canister wasnt hooked up, did that and AC blew hard and through vents (previously only through defrost) put 2 cans of freon everything worked blew cold. Was driving it and I heard a loud squeal and the engine died, put it in neutral, and started it, ran for a bit then same noise and engine died, but this time it wouldn't start, it cranks just won't start. Im thinking the compressor our the clutch seized and stalled the engine and now is preventing a full crank to start. Going to try removing belt and crank to see if it will turn over.

 

Yep, sounds like that's what happened.

 

Your belt is probably toast also.

 

I pulled the belt off and tried to crank it, still won't start, CPS next?

 

Check for spark and fuel.

 

No spark, yes fuel

 

Changed the CPS no start, no spark.

replaced the ignition coil, no start, no spark

Any other ideas would be much appreciated

 

Check cap and rotor, make sure distributor is spinning when you crank

 

Rotor spins, no spark at distributor

 

Check for spark at the coil yet?

 

I don't think so, use a volt meter? Or just pull the plug and see if it Sparks?

 

What would be before the ignition coil that might prevent it from getting electricity?

 

bad ecu? Get a code reader and see if it can see it.

 

No codes

 

But can the reader see the computer?
