My kid's Jeep has a yellow ABS light on the dash...he failed the Massachusetts Auto Inspection for this reason last week..I've been told that I need to bring it to the dealer to find out what the error is....I tried my OBD 2 scanner but it couldn't find a code...the station he brought it to offered to reset it and bleed the ABS for a whopping 500 bucks...I thought that was bull****...the Jeep stops fine and I just did the brakes this summer...can I fix this or am I gonna have to bring it somewhere?

Fuse #9 in the JB powers the ABS indicator lamp on the instrument cluster. tee hee

Power goes from fuse F9 to the ABS relay. When the Controller Anti-Lock Brake activates the relay, the ABS light contacts in the relay open, keeping the light off. When the controller senses a fault it will remove the ground from the relay control coil and relax the power contact in the relay, completeing a ground path to the ABS light.
You may get a CEL with the fuse removed.
Edit: Just a minor oversight...That if you pull fuse F9 it will also kill the instrument cluster...
However, if you remove the relay you may get away with it (?)
Try it and see.

It's in the Power Distribution Center (PDC), located on the passenger side of the engine bay. Black box by the coolant overflow bottle.
Remove the cover from the PDC. The relay locations are identified on the inside of the cover.
Here's the layout of the PDC:

removing the relay is what most XJ owners do that I have seen.
It does not effect anything and it still brakes like it did with the light on.
My 2000 has been that way for a few years as well as my buddy's 99.
Im not in the process of looking into the issue and what is wrong.
