Ok I bought a cheap compression tester. I want to get a remote start switch before doing the compression test so I can watch the gauge closely since according to the instructions that came with the compression tester
"If the needle fails to travel up-scale
as described in Step 1, or if it remains at the same value for several strokes and then starts to climb,
the cylinder has a sticking valve"
Apparently I will need to see the gauge to do this.
I will also need to do the test cold since I cant get the jeep started at this point. I know the readings wont be as accurate doing the test cold but I believe it will still tell me what is going on.
I don't yet have a repair manual for my jeep, can somebody please tell me the High and Low specs for compression on the 4.0L 242CI L6 FI VIN S. Thanks if you can.
I will post my findings once the test is completed.
Thanks for listening to me ramble lol

Well it has been a while and I still have not been able to do the compression test.It has been too wintery out this winter lol and I cant get my jeep to start to pull it into the garage.
I bought a new battery for it because it was turning over real slow like the battery was weak despite having the battery on trickle charge for a week or so,I figured the old battery was junk.
With the new battery in it still does the same thing. I have to check the main battery connections to the starter and ground still but I have never had this problem and am unsure what else to look for other than the cable connections.
I know its a vague description but any ideas on what else it could be if it is not a bad/corroded connection to the starter?Maybe the starter is bad?I have never had a starter act like that though, usually it just quits.

Ok I will try the starting fluid. I did try to dump a small bit of gas in the intake directly a bit ago and that didnt help.
I think for some reason it is just turning over way too slow to start but I am not sure why.

I would consider replacing the fan clutch. If you do ,there is an oversize one that fits. NAPA has them. I do not know the number off the top of my head but they go the 93-98 grand cherokee. Someone may have number handy.

Thanks for the suggestion, is there an issue with the fan clutch causing a slow crank situation? or are you suggesting it for the over heating issue?
