Default 99 Cherokee No start

After many months of flawless operation, she won't start. From the beginning... I drove into my driveway, turned her around and turned her off. 30 minutes later, started her up, put her in drive, trans felt wrong, like it was slipping. Put it in low gear, pulled out fine, no slipping. Reversed, backed up fine and then the engine stalled. During this time I lost my gauges and showed a BUS message. Tried to start but she would not. Checked fuel pressure but none there. (I replaced the module with a Bosch 10 months and 2500 miles ago.) Checked my electrical connector at the tank looks good. Code reader shows (P1694 - No messages received from the powertrain control module). My guess is PCM time, am I on the right track or is there something else I can look at first? Thank-you.

The crank sensor (or the wiring) may have shorted. I believe the PCM shuts everything down when that happens. Disconnect the crank sensor and turn the key to RUN. Do the gauges come back?

Thanks for reply, fb97xj1. Did that, but no change. I neglected to mention in first post that I swapped out the fuel relay with a relay known to be good, but the relay was fine. So I keep looking at P1694 code and found this description...No CCD messages received from the ECM. I think I will gamble on a new ECM.

I would start with the grounds. Remove and clean them all. A poor ground can cause all kinds of issues. A faulty PCM is possible, but it is best to check everything else out before replacing it.

I ruled that out because I did it once when I bought the Jeep using a forum member's excellent drawing that showed them all, but still good advice. Never hurts to re-check them before spending money. Thanks for reminder.
