My '99 Cherokee (4.0 / automatic) has what the dealership technician calls "idle undershoot." When I come to anything more than a gentle stop the idle drops down to about 400 and the engine feels like it is going to stall. It usually recovers before it actually stalls but it's annoying. The dealer told me it was a software issue and re-flashed the computer. Didn't fix the problem. Has anyone out there had a similar problem and were you able to fix it? Thanks to anyone who can help.

Sounds like a bad Idle Air Control solenoid/valve. to me. Though a bad TPS sensor can also cause this. Any faults? Go on you tube and search for JEEP 4.0L Throttle cleaning watch a couple vids and start there.
Thanks for the advice. The mechanic found no faults. I have an idle control valve and a TPS so I will give each a try. Thanks again.
