Hi, I'm new to this forum but belong to many other Mopar forums for my 65 Valiant and 73 Charger. I've also got this 99 Cherokee Sport 4.0L with 192,000 miles on it. It's only been in the shop for a oil pan gasket and starter replacement. I can't believe it's gone this far without a major problem. Now it's starting to have a few minor problems. I took it to a shop because it would stall right after start up unless you gave it a little gas. So I thought it was just like my Ford and thought it was the IAC solenoid. So the shop that does my big repairs looked at it quick and started it and told me the same thing. So I replaced it and it worked sometimes but it still stalls sometimes on initial startup after sitting a while. When I took the old one out I noticed it was pretty caked with carbon. Unlike the one on my Ford Ranger it just goes bad it never has any carbon all over it. The same mechanic told me to clean the throttle plates with throttle body cleaner. I can't see how that simple of a procedure would cure something this major. It still stalls randomly after startup right away unless you give it some gas. Any suggesstions?

clean your throttle body and throttle positioning sensor. also, sounds simple but make sure your battery terminals/wires are tight/good. fuel pump and or check valve are common too.

i was having the same problem, the ground wire from my battery was fraying

Yea, I put a new tps in my jeep a couple weeks when I was trying to solve a shifting issue by process of elimination...$50 spent in vain haha. Ended up being the NSS and a fuse.

hey wh23g3...x2 on solid electrical connections and strong battery....perhaps you need to purge the 'egr' solenoid (it's black and sits on the firewall in front of the passenger)....same as cleaning tb with crc...but you'll be cleaning the exhaust vacuum tubes....one end of the solenoid vacuum hose terminates just below your tb on the manifold driver's side, it can get gunked up and affect vacuum, thus causing stallage!...if you unplug that hose, and the hose was gunked up, it will not stall any longer! - plug it up with your finger and it will stall!....follow it to the other end of the vacuum line and that's the 'egr' solenoid...unplug it and give it a good cleaning with the crc....if you blow into it, it should only go in one direction - towards the engine outlet - if you can blow both ways, then the diaphragm inside is shot, need new egr....good luck!
