Default 98 xj starting on the 3rd time!!!

98 xj 4.0 209k, I just got it so decided to freshen up a few things. New oil and filter plugs and wires coolant flush with new thermostat and cap new battery. It cranks very good but always seems to start on the 3rd time after I give it a little gas. Idk!!!!

Try this first.
Turn the key to the on position but don't start it.
Wait for all the lights to go off in the cluster.
Then start it.
Let us know how she starts then.

the jeep needs time to prime fuel and do its check list, you can crank all that time and wear out the starter, or just turn the key and pause, then it fires up

Two problems, not related.

Check your fuel pressure.
