98 XJ rough erratic idle
Installed rebuilt 4.0 long block in 98 XJ had #1 piston TDC installed distributor with rotor pointing to #1 wire on cap. Nothing. Good fuel pressure good spark double checked electrical connections vacuum hoses. Thought maybe it was TDC on exhaust stroke. Brought engine back to TDC and reinstalled distributor. Nothing. Brought engine to TDC again reinstalled distributor pointed at number one moved plug wires on cap counter clockwise one pin fired right up but runs really rough and idle is really erratic. Tried moving plug wires back to where book shows and moving distributor one gear tooth around at a time would never crank. The only way it will even crank is at TDC with plug wires moved counter clockwise one post. First post on forum sorry if its a little long
