Default 98 XJ low oil pressure

Hello everyone,

I remember seeing other threads about the XJ showing low oil pressure when idling hot, and wanted to mention that after changing the o-rings on the oil filter assembly my oil pressure reading went up 10 psi to about 22-25 psi.

I had previously replaced the oil pressure sensor, which bumped it up about 3 psi, but changing the o-rings on the filter assembly made a big difference (not to mention that oil is no longer leaking all the way to the exhaust pipe).

By the way - I didn't have to remove any parts to get the oil filter assembly off. I just bought a T60 torx socket that I punched out of its 3/8 socket housing (from Northern Tool) and used a 14 MM wrench with the T60 bit attached to it with electrical tape (so it didn't fall out of the wrench).

I bought the set of 3 o-rings from the local Jeep dealer for less than $4.

Hope this helps someone...

I forgot to mention that when driving in town or on the highway the PSI is between 40 and 50 PSI (and that didn't change after replacing the o-rings). It just helped the hot idle PSI.

I bought this thing for my kid who will soon be driving, but I like it too much to give it away now I also installed new KYB adjustable gas shocks and a new KYB steering stabilizer, and it drives and rides like a champ.

Funny thing, I bought an XJ for my daughter that will soon be driving, and to be honest, I want to keep it for myself too. I have a 2009 Liberty which I do not like, I much prefer the 2000xj.
