Default 98 xj codes help

Well after my 4 wheeling fun yesterday. I came home with two codes.
1st one is 700: trans pcm control I think. I know it was 700.
2nd is 122 A
Tps?

I think these might be caused by going thru some fairly deep mud/water hoes. I cleaned all the sensors under the hood and put die electric grease on everything. Then cleared the codes out and they came right back. Any other suggestions? Where is the trans pcm controller?

Well now that I think about it. The computer is right next to the air box correct? I did not clean those connections. I will do that next.

Yep blue you are correct...my buddy put a tranny from a 89 XJ into a 93 and had some issues which related directly to that cause he used all the wiring and such from the 89...

Well i cleaned the connections to the ECU. I cleared the codes and they still came right back. I drove it down the road and it was cutting in and out for the first 2 miles. Then it straightened up and drove decent but the codes are still present and it's still not 100% right.

I guess i will snag up a ECU from the junkyard today and try that.

Now that i am thinking of it. Is the TCU get it's signal from the TPS? If i have low voltage at the the TPS that would set the code to the TCU correct?

Try Frank's solution first before you buy a ECU. See if the cleaned NSS will raise the TPS voltage to near 5 volts. Then you should know if the NSS is your culprit.

What is the NSS? Edit: is it the Neutral Safety Switch? And where is it located on the 97+

Nuetral Safety Switch, It's mounted on the passenger side of the tranny. The Range selector signal goes thru the NSS.

Neutral Safety Switch = NSS it is located on the top of the transmission and it has the ECU signal routed through it as well. I t may have gotten wet during your water crossings. They can be fragile so when you remove and clean it be careful b/c they are kinda expensive to purchase a replacement.

Is it on the top or the side?
