Default 98 XJ Chirp While in Gear......

........at a stop, or accelerating. Drive AND Reverse. Goes away in N and P. Chirp gets a bit quicker and a bit louder on acceleration. Can't pinpoint it. Doesn't sound like a belt squeal! No mods (YET!) other than an injector swap 8 months ago. Tensioner? Flywheel? Squirrels?

Is it a chirp or more of a whistle? Try cleaning your throttle body

Well, kind of like a cicada chirp.

I use to get a bird like chirp fron the cv (double u joints) on the front drive shaft of my GMC truck. Sounded just like a bird as soon as the truck started moving, didn't notice it once you reached 35 or so. These old Dana joints were greasable. Thanks

You might need to grease your slip yoke on your rear driveshaft and your u-joints. My 01 was chirping and I greased the DS and that took care of it.

This is what I'm thinking too. Somewhere in the driveshaft. Will give it a shot
