Bought a 98xj motor to replace the motor in my 96xj. Having someone else do it btw. Need to use the 98 flex plate to work with the CPS, and the 98 distributor is different from the 96 and so is it's connector. My question is, if I just change the connector on the later distrib to work with the old harness... will it even work with my 96 ECM/computer? How can I make this work? Thanks much.

EDIT: Appears, that the ecm will work with the dis + the right connecter. "I just replaced my 96 engine with a 98. There are a few differences that you should note. First, the engine coolant switch/sensor at the back of the valve cover may not be there on your donor engine. I tapped the thermostat housing and put the sensor there and ran the wiring.

Second, the 98's sensors also used different wiring connectors so I just swapped in the original sensors since the JY cut off the wiring harness." Would like to confirm this for sure though.

 

Positively ID'd carb- it's a motorcraft 2150. Waiting for the carb adapter to come in the mail. Then it will be clocked 90* and the stock throttle linkage will work- once i find another cherokee to rob it off of. Sigh.
