98 ecu into 96

Default 98 ecu into 96

any help would be appreciated im wondering if i can replace a 96 computer with a 98 if i can just plug it in or would i have to change the entire harness if any one knows the differences and could get back to me id appreciate it

What I have been told is that a '96 will only work with a '96 PCM

I believe this would be true for the following reasons;

* '96 is the 1st year with OBD2

* post '96 have immobilisers fitted and also communicate with the transmission computer.

I would imagine that a '98 PCM wants a signal from these 2 inputs, and they will not be present

You can buy a reman '96 from various USA sources if you Google it

56041 is the part num, followed by various 3 digits that suit a '96, including 199-201, 282, 293 and various others..you must check..auto makes a difference

Look at the plugs. Same or different?
And you're definitely not gonna re-wire the wrong one in no matter what.
