98 cherokee sport...transmission codes??

Default 98 cherokee sport...transmission codes??

got a 98 cherokee sport. it is not shifting into over drive, the check engine light has came on, i took it and it is reading 2 different codes, the first is P0700 transmission control system malfunction. the second is P0705 transmission range sensor, circuit malfunction. any idea on what and how hard this will be to fix? thanks

I had the same exact problem in my 98 sport. Mine only did it once and I haven't fixed it yet. I believe its the shift solenoid for 3-4. That's what mine seems to be. Mine just isn't real bad yet.

Inside the transmission. U pull the pan and its right there. There are three of them. I'm not sure Wich one it is but all the connections are differant so it can't be that hard but I'm not sure to be honest

My 1999 XJ was throwing the P0705. If you search "neutral safety switch" you'll see its very common. You'll find write-ups on how to clean it. I was all set to clean the switch, but couldn't manage to get it removed. My P0705 code actually went away when I had a shop fix a wiring short in the A/C-electric fan circuitry.
