'98 Cherokee Sport Steering Column

Soo... My Mechanic has informed me that I need to replace the steering column on my '98 Cherokee sport...

However, I've been looking for a replacement column, and all I've seen are columns from automatic cherokees and my cherokee sport is a 5-spd manual.... Also it is a tilt steering column...

Can I put the steering column from an AT cherokee on my MT cherokee?

One guy told me the column for the 97-00 Wranglers are the same columns...

Also any advice on where to get it? I've seen a ton of the AT steering columns online for as low as like $40...

I really need someone to help me break down and simplify this problem... like this is what you need... this is the best place to get it...

Mechanic tried replacing the ignition switch, but it has something to do with the switch that the key triggers after its turned *thats the part thats broken* and he is saying that its not sold separate from the column.

Any and all insights are most definitely appreciated!
