Default '98 cherokee 5speed questions.

In the process of looking for a new cherokee to replace mine, I came across a 4wd, 4.0l, 5speed with the ax15 transmission, np231 t-case, HPD30 Front, and D35 Rear axles. Also found another one with a Chry8.25 rear.

Was wondering if many guys on here had the 5 speed before and how they liked them in the 07-01 cherokees? The one I found needs a clutch. Want to see if they are liked more then the AW4, before I make a 10 hour drive to pick it up. lol

I hear the D35 axles are weak in the rear.

Live in oklahoma.. will have a 3 or a 4.5 inch lift with 31's or 33's. Use will be for weekend wheeling, mud, and daily driven.

Also wanting to know if anyone knows if the nv3550 out of the tj's would swap in place of this one.

What are you planning on doing with the Jeep? Lotta rock-crawling? City driving? Highway cruising?

Personally I would love it if my XJ had a 5 speed but I don't go off road too much and I love to row my own boat.

I will be doing some weekend offroad/wheeling/mudding. Nothing to crazy really since I live in oklahoma. Until I can really afford to upgrade.

i love my 5 speed, this is my second had a 97 before my current is a 94 my brother had a auto 2000, if you plan on hauling alot i suggest the auto since the 5sp tranny would be stressed alot more since they dont have coolers on them. but i get 23/27 mpg in my jeep, i have done a bit of work to it though. my brothers got 19, on a good day on the interstate.

My 98 has a 5 speed and I now have over 340,000 miles on it. Wouldn't trade it for anything. I also think that the 5 speed is part of the reason for the high mileage.
