Default 98 2dr - Strap and bolt kit

I used to feel a clunk when accelerating from a stop and the jeep shop replaced the strap and bolt kit in the rear which fixed it for a while. The mechanic told me it would eventually happen again and I'd need to get it replaced. Well sure enough it is, So I'm wondering is it the drive shaft that'll need to replaced or just another kit?

1) try to retighten the nuts
2) pull the rear drive shaft and pack the slip yoke with grease.

Did he tell you why he thought it would happen again? Is there damage to the yoke like the little tabs that hold the u-joint are missing or damaged?

^ good point. Parts shouldn't inherently fail often...

X2 - grease the drive shaft and slip yoke.
I had the SAME clunking for 5 years and no one could tell me what it was.
took it out, greased it and it's like new now!

Definitely good advice, but I think he's saying the yoke straps (or bolts) failed once and now feel like they're failing again. Plus his mechanic predicted the failure, so I'm just curious.

If it the straps you could do the u bolt conversion.Makes it alot tougher, you dont have to worry about stripped bolts and trail repair is no big deal either....HELP part number is 81004 gotta em at Autozone,You just drill out the existing holes with a 5/16th bit and your good to go.I am going to do the front too
