97 sputter and stall?

97 sputter and stall?
I'm currently running Premium gas in my 97. When I start off, it seems to sputter like if it's going to die...sometimes it actually will die. Granted I am starting in second gear (1st is out at the moment). Does this sound like a gas issue...a clutch issue...a fuel pump issue? Any advice is appreciated.
