97' only had one style, you sure you didn't get a 98' sender? 98' was when they change the style of connectors

Do you have a full gauge instrument cluster or do you have the idiot light cluster?

The 97 oil pressure gauge sending unit will have a two pin configuration and, I think, that if you only have idiot lights, it may be a single pin switch, not a gauge sending unit.

Nope, 97' sensors are all bi-signals. They work for the idiot lights and working gauges. Just like the 98'+

i have the gauge cluster and the connectors are identical exept the one that came of the car has one pin and the one i bought has 2 pins ,i got it of fleabay so it could be a 98 sender sold as a 97 , anybody have a link to a 98 cherokee wiring diagram for the oil senders, cheers

Autozone has a double and a single version. Had this issue with friends late 96 4.0 if I remember the Canadian version was one wire.

It appears your question didn't get answered... Often times the single pin type use the threads as the negative connection... The dual pin uses wire for the ground... Ya just need to figure out which pin is used for the ground and which is for signal... Connect the signal to your wire and the other pin to a ground...

Apparently yours is equipped with a 96 switch....

After doing a bit of research I came up with the 1995's had single pin and the 96 is when they went to two pin... Seems odd that you would have a 1997 jeep with a 1995 wiring harness in it...
