Default 97 jeep cherokee .... Transfer case...

Okay so i dont know all lingo about cars and stuff. But we have a 1997 jeep cherokee. And the transfer case died. If i buy a used 1994 jeep cherokee transfer case will it fit or no? I know that there might be like some small altering to a few things. But the guys can figure out that part. I just need to know if it will even work?

There are lots of variables and you are in the wrong sub forum.

Take this question to the stock Cherokee XJ sub forum and include the transmission (auto or manual) and the transfer case type. Those guys will have your answers.

Good luck!

The output style will be different.

It should be a direct bolt up on the transmission side. If you can get the rear driveshaft off the 94 and you have the same rear axle and transmission type (auto vs. manual) then you may just be able to use the 94 driveshaft and be good to go.

what exactly went wrong with your original transfer case?
you should be able to tear them both apart, and use most of the internals from the 94 case into your 97 case. they're very similar, providing they are both the same style (231 vs 242).
you may need to keep your input shaft, but use the chain/gears/shift fork, etc from the 94 case.

they're quite simple inside, don't get overwhelmed, just follow a video from bleepin jeep. he covers it quite intensively. easy peasy.
