I know this has probably been answered before, but I couldn't find it, so I'm asking again.

Anyhow, wife's 1997 XJ Country. 4.0L, 4WD, bone stock except for the stereo head unit.

Won't shift into 1st gear automatically. Will shift into 1st manually. At take-off, it feels like it's in 2nd or 3rd gear. Very sluggish getting going, then takes off properly once it gets up to a decent speed. Did a fluid/filter swap, drives smoother did not fix the issue. Is it the transmission shifter solenoids, or is there another issue I should be looking at?
