I just bought a 96 XJ. While looking under the hood I found what appears to be a connector that has been cut off. I do not have a service manual yet, so can someone please help identify what this is from the photos? It is near the firewall on the passenger side of the vehicle. It appears that it could have connected near the back of the valve cover.

 

Man if I had dollar for every time........... LOL.
As always my first guess is the under the hood light.

Thank you, by the way! I think you are right. It looks like there is a spot on the hood where a light would normally attach.

Hood light. That is a clean 96.

 

Thanks! You should see the rest of it. It only has 67K miles. The original owner put 60K miles on it, and the second owner's teenage son put on the next 7K miles along with about a half dozen dents. Otherwise, the vehicle is shockingly clean and rust free.
