Default 96 xj sport problems

Ok so I have a 96 and the problem I have is it hesitates when starting from a stop and seems to kick out if gear into nuetral as it will roll downhill backwards. If the gas is applied it will lock back up and move again but if I let off the gas even a little it will drop out.

I have tried taking the shift linkage off and manually shifting it into gear.... No change. Tried a new tps no change cleaned nss no change. Bought an obd2 reader and it wont read.

Bad computer maybe? Broken wires somewhere . I realm don't know I have tried for months to figure this out and as it is my DD its put me in a bad spot any one have an idea.

How is the fluid. That behavior could be a symptom of dead or low fluid.

Don't bother with the filter. It's merc/dex. What the CEL for?

It flashes 12 and 44 at me when I do the key trick and as I said I tried reading it with an obd 2 reader and it wouldn't connect with the vehicle plugs in just wont read

Update today I tried to start the jeep turned over tried to start sputter and die then no power. Get out play with the connection at the battery turn the key again turns right on over and no cel now. Trans problem still there. Could all my problems really be just a trans fliud change and filter.

It's possible. Do the fluid change the filter is a waste of money.
