So I'm trying to put in a new muffler on my 96 xj and I'm having some trouble.

So far I've cut out the pipe behind the muffler but I can't get the actual muffler off of the cat.

It is not welded on what so ever it appears to be just slipped over the cat. I've pulled and shook and twisted but it won't come off. It will twist back and forth just won't come off.

Anyone have any ideas?

 

Replaced my 96's original system last yr. Using an air chisel I split the pipe lengthwise that goes on the cat then started chiseling it of the cat pipe. Did end up knocking it off with sledge.

 

I ended up just cutting it. I'm left with a little piece still on the cat that I'm probably just gonna try to chisel off.
