First time poster here..

Went out to my Jeep last night at 4am (and 10 degrees) and it was naturally a bit hard starting. But then as soon as I let go of the key, the motor just quit. I tried starting it a couple more times while giving it some gas and it ran ok as long as I kept my foot on the gas.. as soon as I let go: dead. Otherwise it has been running fine other than the fuel pump sounding a bit louder recently. And last night during this little frost-bitten escapade, it seemed very loud..

I've done some research this morning and it sounds to me exactly like the Ballast Resistor problem that so many people have experienced.. But then I also read that a 96 XJ doesn't have a ballast...?...

So, A: is this true? No ballast on a 96?
and B: if not, then is there an equivalent goblin in a 96, or what else is it?
