Default 96 no fuel regulator on rail is it in tank getting 15 psi

4.0 Having hesitation 15 psi on rail.Wanting to check fuel regulator before I change the pump but can't be found. Is it in the pump, guy at Napa said its on the rail and not in the pump saying the pump has no regulator. So where is my regulator.Called jeep dealership told me same thing.Googled it someone said they put it in the pump the later part of 96 production. Are Jeep and Napa missing something because 70.00 sure is cheap for pump and regulator if it is in the pump.Is there a different assembly I need other than the pump, kind of lost here.

All I know is that it moved from the rail to the tank. You might go to google's "advanced search" > http://www.google.com/advanced_search?hl=en

If you put cherokeeforum.com in with "any of these words" it will do a good job searching here.

It's on the fuel pump. You need the whole assembly.

The regulator is in the tank as part of the fuel sending unit. Unfortunately you cannot buy a new regulator anymore . Chrysler and their infinite wisdom only did this for 96 cherokees. when you buy a new fuel pump it does not come with a new regulator. If your regulator is truly out, you will need to procure one from a junk yard. Sucks.

pictures in this thread, the regulator is in the tan plastic portion of the fuel sending unit

Fuel filter has been changed and has lean fuel code PO 171 bank 1.I may go with fuel pump and not the whole assembly would hate to pay for regulator I don't need but it's a gamble and may bite me in the end.Fuel pressure is only 15 psi its got to be pump or regulator or am I missing something.

Could be a split hose on the pump assembly.

Ok,will pull pump check for splits hoses,if not split hose will buy new pump and not full assembly and hope its not the regulator.Pump is 59.00 with napa discount and 312.00 for full assembly with regulator in the pump. Thanks everyone this forum has been extremely helpful.

Pulled pump and it was a new after market pump I've only owned the jeep a week.Made me think maybe it was the regulator, trip to junkyard and bought a regulator out of an assembly,10 bucks.Didn't want buy a pump and get to get stuck with it and find out its the regulator,I was wrong, put a bosch pump in and runs the way it should. Thanks everyone for your help.

Glad you got a Bosch, they seem to hold up very well. I never had any problems with them.
