96 Jeep Cherokee Power Distribution Center Diagram Index
Hey AWG-
I went to our forum with my laptop, fullsight. Checked my settings and inbox and instant messaging. Nothing there. That "dude" must have taken my copy of your diagram. Can you resend the link to your diagram? Any help is greatly appreciated. Have a great Jeepin' New Year!! LadyL

I will then email you a copy of chapter 8w-11, and see if i can add some other electrical chapters of the '96 FSM, which is a photocopy of the paper manual, converted to pdf

Not as helpful as I thought. Even my official paper FSM is not accurate to my actual PDC. I believe only my original owner's manual has a somewhat accurate guide (because that is how I identified my ASD fuse when I needed it). But I have not had time over the holidays to change course and try to redo the diagram using the owner's manual. But I'm also afraid that mine is not going to match everyone else's, if even the FSM shows something different. But I suppose it would be better than nothing, but I don't want people to be misguided in diagnosis because they are following a bad diagram (just like all those poor folks that follow those spark plug order diagrams that are wrong).
For example LadyL, take the picture you posted above..and the -empty- spot under the ABS relay (using the guide on the cover), I have a relay there! Why...I don't know. I don't have ABS, or any other options that would explain it. Yet...there it is. I also don't think my Fuel Pump Relay matches up with that pictures position either.

My theory (after a few visits to the junk yard and comparing with other vintage Chrysler PDCs) is that towards the end of 96, with the redesign coming out for 97, that they were using up what was left from a variety of PDC components from a variety of vehicles. I have no insight, its just a theory. Its the same theory regarding the mix/match of new and old connectors/sensors on the late 96 (like mine). As the old line ran dry they started incorporating the new components that were getting stockpiled/ready for the upcoming 97. Maybe as they started running low on the remaining PDC boxes, they couldn't just swap in the 97 model (perhaps it wasn't available yet or perhaps due to the increase in relays, it wasn't a good match) so maybe they were getting batches of boxes from other vehicle models and making them work until 97 came. I came up with this theory when I saw a very similar PDC to my own (late-year model 96) on a similar vintage Chrysler minivan - if I remember correctly.
my close VINs are ABS Limited, and non-ABS Sport, so that would make a difference. They have identical ECU part nums
my 10/96 Sport, has a different ECU part num and interestingly, the inside fuse board has the fuse functions printed on it, unlike the earlier ones
They all have OBD2 plug inside, and rectangular sensor connectors

I too agree with your theory. I had heard that they changed midway through 96. Great! Hard to get pieces parts that match correctly or proper diagrams, handbooks etc, but could also be very valuable!! I love my little Jeep regardless ❤️ Thanks everyone for your input.

It would be interesting to hear from anyone with an OBD1 based '96, which presumably would be prior to 4/96 ?
have a list somewhere of all the indentifying features of an OBD1 vs 2
In the forum that I belong to in Oz, there is a split that confuses things a bit...the older body shape which is more boxy, is known as a pre-update...as far as I know all '96 are pre-update bodies
the later body from 97 on, is known a s post-update, and is more rounded
In any case, us '96sixers gotta stick together

I have the same PDC as in the picture above, and can probably answer specific questions. If you simply need to know all of them, and their function I could make a diagram, but it would take a little time because the FSM doesn't provide a simple guide, just detailed schematics for each fuse number/location.
Here is all the owners manuals for whichever year of jeep you have http://cruiser54.com/?page_id=365

what you need is the '95 FSM, which is everything but the engine
and '97 which covers engine and obd2 system
both available on Cruisers website
grab the 94-96 Parts Manual while ur at it
I also have the Chrysler Technicians Diagnostic manual for a '95, which is available as a free download somewhere
Hey Brandon, I would be glad to look on my OLD computer for the file when I return home. I’m out of state at the moment. I have a folder saved with info on my ‘96 Jeep Cherokee. I will see what I can find for you 😊
